People suffering from addiction are often judged as having moral weakness. Even once they have found recovery, that stigma may continue. Recovering from an addiction is hard enough, but for many former substance users, even more difficult is dealing with society's judgment and how to build a life back up.
The recovery movement is being organized at the local, provincial and federal level. One that is aimed at keeping the focus on the fact that recovery works and is making life better for millions of Canadians. A movement that aims to make known the many faces and voices of those who have found a solution. By sharing stories of success, those who are still suffering can see that recovery is possible.
September is Recovery Month in Canada and celebrations across the nation have been bringing communities together to combat negative perceptions towards individuals in recovery since 2012.
